The U16 Victory Shield competition began today with two good games. Northern Ireland played Scotland at Tramore and found themselves down 0-3 after 22 minutes but regained some esteem thereafter with a determined performance pulling one goal back in the 70th minute. A good opening 3-1 victory for the Scots. Back to Waterford for the hosts Republic of Ireland to entertain Wales. A ding dong first half saw Wales take an early lead, the Republic equalised three minutes later before the Welsh lads regained the lead just before half time. A determined performance in the second half by the Republic saw them equalise in the 52nd minute. The game continued end to end and with the score at 2-2 the final whistle was blown - penalties! Scores level at 4-4 after one save each for the GK's so now it's sudden death...
Wales next penalty is very well saved - how did it stay out? The confident Republic 6th pen drilled home to secure the (new for this year) bonus point.
