Northern Ireland 1 v Wales 1
Goals: NI (44) Wales (51)

As Northern Ireland and Wales battled out this Centenary shield fixture, the world were able to watch thanks to our new broadcasting partner, FreeSports TV.

On what was an extremely windy day, both teams took to the field looking for their first three points in the competition, having failed to win their previous Centenary Shield fixture.

Northern Ireland took control of the conditions and the tempo of the game in the first half, registering most of the possession and seeing their first major chance bounce back out off the post.

As the minutes ticked down to half time, a strong run down the left wing saw a shot parried by the Welsh goalkeeper - but only into the direction of Irish no 10 McConnell, who shot home to take the home team into the break leading the tie.

The second half started much like the first, with Ireland in control, and as the team in green took a corner, Wales secured the ball and played a beautifully flighted ball into the path of their tricky winger (#7) who beat the full back for pace and slammed the ball into the roof of the net to level the scores.

A number of substitutions gave players the opportunity to try and affect the outcome of the game in one way or another, and although Northern Ireland pushed hard to double their goal tally the Welsh goalkeeper answered with a strong performance.

The referee blew for full time and the points were shared, which was a fair result all round. Well done to both teams involved and the NISFA for organising the alternative venue at short notice due to the inclement weather.
